Protein Background: MECP2 (Methyl-CpG-binding protein 2) is a chromosomal protein that binds to methylated DNA. It can bind specifically to a single methyl-CpG pair. It is not influenced by sequences flanking the methyl-CpGs. Mediates transcriptional repression through interaction with histone deacetylase and the corepressor SIN3A. Binds both 5-methylcytosine (5mC) and 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC)-containing DNA, with a preference for 5 methylcytosine (5mC).
Short Description: Recombinant MECP2 (80-166) protein that includes amino acids 80-166 of human MECP2 protein (accession number NP_004983.1) was expressed in E. coli cells with an N-terminal 6xHis tag. The molecular weight of the protein is 12.19 kDa.
