- Background: proteasome (prosome, macropain) activator subunit 4 (PSME4) is subunit of the proteasome. PSME4 has been found to activate proteasomal cleavage of peptides in an energy-independent manner and may be involved in spermatogenesis. PSME4 may also be involved in DNA repair [taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) Q14997].
