- Background: FANCI is also known as Fanconi anemia group I protein. FANCI has been identified as the gene underlying Fanconi anemia (FA) complementation group I, an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by a predisposition to malignancies, pancytopenia, and a diverse assortment of congenital malformations. FANCI has been demonstrated to function in the repair of DNA double-stranded breaks and the maintenance of chromosomal stability.
