Glucagon is a pancreatic hormone whose actions are antagonistic to insulin, functioning to increase blood glucose through stimulation of glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis in the liver. Glucagon is a ligand for the glucagon receptor, a G-protein linked receptor whose signalling pathway controls cell proliferation. Glucagon is secreted from A-cells within the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas.Synonyms: GCG
