Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are a class of enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids. The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the class-I aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase family and catalyzes the attachment of glutamate to tRNA(Glu). Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010].
