While it was reported to have a tumor suppressor function in cholangiocarcinoma, cadherin-6 expression was shown to be a marker of epithelial mesenchymal transition, and positively correlated with stage and metastasis of papillary thyroid carcinoma. In related studies, cadherin-6 was shown to interact with GABARAP and related proteins to restrain autophagy, thereby promoting metastatic behavior. Cadherin-6 has since been proposed as an antibody-drug conjugate target for the treatment of ovarian and renal cancers.
