Tissue Specificity: Widely expressed, with highest expression in lung, followed by testis, pancreas, spleen and ovary.
Background: RNA demethylase ALKBH5 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the ALKBH5 gene. It is mapped to 17p11.2. N (6)-methyladenosine (m (6)A) is the most prevalent modification of mRNA. ALKBH5 functions as a demethylase that removes m (6)A from mRNAs.
