Background: QKI is an RNA-binding protein and translational repressor important to embryogenesis and myelination. QKI exist as multiple isoforms with distinct functions that regulate pre-mRNA splicing and the stability of proteins central to oligodendrocyte differentiation. QKI has been identified as a candidate gene in schizophrenia.
