- Background: C9orf142 is involved in DNA non-homologous end joining (NHEJ). It may act as a scaffold required to stabilize the Ku heterodimer, composed of XRCC5/Ku80 and XRCC6/Ku70, at DNA ends and thus promote assembly and/or stability of the NHEJ machinery at double-strand break (DSB) sites [taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) Q9BUH6].
