背景
- Background: ACC1/ACC-alpha catalyzes the carboxylation of acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA in the enzymatic pathway of long-chain fatty-acid synthesis. ACC1/ACC-alpha has been identified as a partner of BRCA1. Through this interaction, ACC1/ACC-alpha may contribute to the tumor suppressor activity of BRCA1 as demonstrated by the finding that disruption of this interaction increases lipid synthesis in mammary epithelial cells. In this context, lipogenesis has been closely linked to tumorigenesis and ACC1/ACC-alpha has been found to be highly expressed in human breast carcinomas.
