- Background: Anaphase-promoting complex subunit 1(APC1) is a component of the anaphase-promoting complex (APC). The APC complex functions as an ubiquitin ligase and is responsible for the ubiquitination of securin and cyclin B and prompts the onset of anaphase and the exit from mitosis. The APC complex is composed of at least 11 APC components. APC1 is the largest of these subunits.
