背景

Background: Galectin-7 is a beta-galactoside-binding protein specifically expressed in stratified epithelium and plays a role in modulating cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. Galectin-7 has been demonstrated to promote apoptosis and its expression is inducible by p53 and down-regulated in squamous cell carcinoma.
