Alirocumab is a human IgG2 monoclonal antibody that binds to and prevents the binding of the proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9). PCSK9 is a protein that binds to LDL receptors for degradation, thus reducing the liver’s activity of removal of LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) from the blood. It is used in the treatment of hyperlipidemia. -
