Beta-defensin-3 is a nonhemolytic antimicrobial peptide originally isolated from human lesional psoriatic scales and cloned from human keratinocytes. Beta-defensin-3 appears to play a role in natural epithelial defense against infections by a broad spectrum of pathogenic microorganisms.
