Neutralization: To yield one-half maximal inhibition [ND50] of the biological activity of Rat CNTF (0.15 ng/mL), a concentration of 0.002-0.005 μg/mL of this antibody is required. ELISAIndirect: To detect Rat CNTF by indirect ELISA (using 100 l/well antibody solution) aconcentration of 0.5-2.0 μg/mL of this antibody is required. This antigen affinity purifiedantibody, in conjunction with compatible secondary reagents, allows the detection of atleast 0.2-0.4 ng/well of recombinant Rat CNTF. Sandwich: To detect Rat CNTF by sandwich ELISA (using 100 l/well antibody solution) aconcentration of 0.5-2.0 μg/mL of this antibody is required. This antigen affinity purifiedantibody, in conjunction with Biotinylated Anti-Rat CNTF as a detection antibody, allowsthe detection of at least 0.2-0.4 ng/well of recombinant Rat CNTF. Western BlotTo detect Rat CNTF by Western Blot analysis this antibody can be used at a concentration of0.1-0.2 μg/mL. Used in conjunction with compatible secondary reagents the detection limitfor recombinant Rat CNTF is 1.5-3.0 ng/lane, under either reducing or non-reducingconditions.

CNTF is also important for the survival of other neural cell types including primary sensory neurons, motor neurons, basal forebrain neurons and type 2 astrocytes.
