Induces apoptosis by promoting the oligomerization of Apaf-1 into the mature, functional apoptosome and triggering caspase-9 activation resulting in activated caspase-3. Shows a stronger selectivity for cancer cells than for normal cell lines. Acts in a similar fashion as apoptosis inducer alpha- (trichloromethyl)-4-pyridineethanol (PETCM).
